02 / 07 Product engineering

Software your business runs on.

Customer-facing applications, back-office systems and the APIs between them, built with mature tools and shipped with everything needed to operate them.

What we deliver

  • Web applications and customer portals
  • Internal business systems: inventory, orders, billing, operations
  • REST APIs and integrations with payment, messaging and ERP providers
  • User management with roles and permissions, audit trails, reporting
  • Responsive front ends that work on the devices your users actually have
  • Automated tests, CI pipelines, deployment scripts and handover documentation

How we build

  • Python and FastAPI on PostgreSQL for the core, modern JavaScript on the front
  • Security by default: parameterised queries, hashed credentials, rate limits, least privilege
  • Short iterations, each one deployable, demonstrated to you as it lands
  • Infrastructure defined in code so environments are reproducible
  • Performance budgets agreed up front and measured before release

03 / 07 Solution architecture

The expensive decisions, made deliberately.

Before a line of code, and at every point where the shape of the system changes, we write down what is being decided, why, and what it will cost to reverse.

What we deliver

  • Solution architecture documents sized to the audience, from a two-page sketch to a full review pack
  • Architecture decision records with alternatives and consequences
  • C4, deployment, data-flow, integration and security views
  • Non-functional requirements made measurable: latency, availability, recovery, cost
  • Technology assessments with trade-offs and a recommendation
  • Cost and sizing estimates, risks, and an implementation roadmap

Typical engagements

  • Architecture for a new product before the build starts
  • Independent review of a design produced by another team or vendor
  • A migration plan for a system that has outgrown its first architecture
  • Preparation for an architecture review board, investor or enterprise procurement
  • Ongoing architecture ownership alongside your engineering team

04 / 07 AI and agentic systems

Language models that do real work.

We build applications on large language models the way we build any other system: with clear requirements, measured quality, controlled cost and the guardrails that make them safe to leave running.

What we deliver

  • Assistants and copilots grounded in your own documents and data
  • Retrieval pipelines: ingestion, chunking, indexing, re-ranking, citations
  • Autonomous and scheduled agents that research, draft, classify and act under review
  • Document extraction and classification at volume
  • Evaluation harnesses so quality is a number, not an impression
  • Model selection and routing across hosted and open-weight models for cost and latency

How we keep it safe

  • Every agent has a defined scope, a budget and a human checkpoint where the stakes require one
  • Prompt and data handling designed for confidentiality from the start
  • Regression suites of real cases run before any model or prompt change ships
  • Full logging of inputs, outputs and cost per request

05 / 07 Modernisation and operations

Keep what works. Replace what does not. Run it well.

Most of the software in the world is already written. We move it to current platforms, make it observable, and keep it improving after launch instead of decaying.

What we deliver

  • Assessment of an existing system: what to keep, what to replace, in what order
  • Migration of legacy applications and databases with no big-bang cutover
  • Deployment to Cloudflare, AWS or Azure with infrastructure as code
  • Monitoring, alerting, backups and tested recovery procedures
  • Runbooks your own team can follow at three in the morning

Retainers

  • A fixed monthly allocation of senior engineering time
  • Priority response for incidents, agreed in writing
  • A standing backlog of improvements, worked in order of value
  • Quarterly review of cost, performance and risk

06 / 07 Engagement models

Three ways to work with us.

Fixed scope

A defined deliverable at a fixed price

For work we can specify precisely: an architecture pack, a migration, a product with an agreed feature list. You know the cost before we start, and changes are priced as changes.

Discovery first

A short paid discovery, then a fixed proposal

For work where the scope is genuinely uncertain. Two to four weeks of research, prototyping and architecture produce a proposal you can take to anyone, including us.

Retainer

Senior engineering time, every month

For systems that need to keep improving. A fixed allocation, a prioritised backlog, agreed response times for incidents, and a quarterly review.

All engagements are governed by a written agreement covering scope, intellectual property, confidentiality and payment terms.

07 / 07 Contact

Describe the problem. We will propose the approach.

Tell us what the system should do, who will use it and when you need it. We reply within one working day with a first opinion on approach, timeline and cost.
